Prelude – acolyte lights candles on altar

*Call to Worship

One: We gather as God’s community

All: for we are the Body of Christ.

One: We come as gifted people,

All: to worship our God.

One: We come as a community,

All: to be strengthened in our gifts.

One: We come united as friends of the one spirit

All: who calls us to hope and to build each other up

in love.

One: Come, let us worship.

Many Gifts One Spirit    UMH 114

Opening Prayer (liturgist only)

Christ Jesus, we are your body, and so, with joy and gratitude we gather as your people. You have crafted many parts to that body, given each of us particular gifts, and you call us to use them in building up our community in this place. Some of us know well the gifts you have entrusted to us, others of us still wonder what our gifts might be. Some of us have seen our gifts change as we have grown and changed; others have felt the constancy of a gift as a lifelong friend. As we worship you today, help us claim, reclaim, and discover anew those gifts with which you have equipped us. Amen.

Proclamation of the Word

Prayer for Illumination (liturgist only)

Holy God, in the pages of Scripture we read of your call to Abram. Open our minds and hearts to also hear your call to us. You are the One who continues to call us and invite us to take part in your divine purpose to redeem all humankind. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
