Prelude – acolyte lights candles on altar
*Call to Worship
One: As the clods of Earth make way for the smallest thread of the tallest tree root,
All: so your love makes a way.
One: As the soft black soil cups the seedling,
All: so your love holds our emerging hopes.
One: As the dunes shift and show the movements of the wind,
All: so your love moves slowly and surely.
One: As the deepest caverns were formed by quakes and glaciers,
All: so your love shows us how to open.
One: As the rocky cliffs rise to greet the white waters,
All: so your love stands tall in the onslaught of fears.
One: As the red rocks rise in the flatlands,
All: so your love is a beacon inspiring wonder and awe.
One: As the rocks cause the rivers to babble and the streams to jump,
All: so your love inspires hearts to beat and leap.
One: Come, let us worship at God’s holy invitation, as it is written in the earth around us.
“Morning Has Broken” UMH 145
God who divides the land and sea, you have set this time apart, you call us out of our routine so we may be aware of your presence in new ways. Cause our hearts to stir and roil like the dirt devils on the horizon. Cause our spirits to rise within us and join the song Earth has inspired in all the living. Amen.
Proclamation of the Word
Prayer for Illumination (liturgist only)
Creator God, we enter into the Season of Creation with hope that you will show us the myriad ways creation worships you. The soil under our feet and all that bursts forth from it reveal your love. Teach us, as we open your Word, how to rest in solidarity with the web of life that holds us together with you. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
